Sustainability:::Wedding

When I think back about my own wedding there are two things I would’ve changed had I known then what I know now.  The first is hire a dj.  As generous as my friend was to hook up his iPod to a speaker system, pro djs know how to get people up out of their seats and moving.  The second is have all sorts of amazing handmade and eco-friendly items.  I had only a fraction of the knowledge that I do now and considering what I knew, I think we did a pretty darn good job, but oh, there are some great wedding finds out there.  If you’re planning a wedding with an emphasis on unique, handmade, and eco-friendly details here is a small sampling to whet your palette!

1. Golden Silhouette – Personalized Coffee Favors

These favors are totally consumable (the coffee) and recyclable (the bag) meaning this is a great wedding favor that won’t end up in the trash and on to the landfill.  The labels are custom made with your names and hand stamped.  If you’ve got some non-coffee drinkers, ask for tea instead!

2. My Studio – Vintage Blue Wristlet

This one item fulfills two requirements of being a bride, something old and something blue.  Not to mention, something adorable!  Originally a vintage hand embroidered napkin (with love birds nonetheless!) it has since been repurposed as a zippered wristlet.  Perfect for carrying a few wedding day necessities.

3. Succy Stuff – Ring Bearer “pillow”

I was at a wedding earlier this year where all of the “flower” bouquets and boutonnieres and center pieces were actually succulents that were living and easily replanted in containers for a lovely post-wedding arrangement.  This ring bearer “pillow” is exactly along those same lines.  Why buy flowers that will die or cheesy satin pillows that boys hate to carry anyway when you can have one of these awesome arrangements!

4. Nature Favors – Personalized Birdseed Hearts

Another entry in the wedding guest favor category, these hearts will attract all sorts of wildlife to your guests backyard after your big day.  Each come with a personalized tag and wire for hanging.  Check out the listing link for a number of creative display options using these cute and “green” favors.
